Stan Lee, the former editor-in-chief, publisher, and chairman of Marvel comics has passed away at the age of 95. Lee started working in comic books in 1939, quickly developing a mission statement to add more depth to the world of superheroes dominated by do-gooders with uncomplicated motivations. He saw an opportunity to develop superheroes with flaws and pathos, struggling with demons both personal and actual. Lee used this foundation to found Marvel comics in 1961 with Jack Kirby and the two created some of the most well-known and well-loved characters in media today. Creating or having a hand in creating properties like [...]

Dropping an entire building on my enemies while leaping up in the skies and going through the windows of a building has never been so colorful until I did it in the multiplayer mode of Crackdown 3. At this past weekend's X018 event, Microsoft gave a new, earlier release date for their next big first-party exclusive (February 15) and formally presented its multiplayer mode. It's called Wrecking Zone, it puts the “power of the cloud” to work, in real time, and we got to play it. The mode we tried is called Agent Hunter. This is a 5v5 match where both [...]

Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood of Venice, a board game adaptation of the Ezio-era Assassin's Creeds, will begin its Kickstarter campaign November 13. The 1-4 player game combines cooperative and tactical gameplay, and comes with miniatures of existing Assassin's Creed characters alongside some new ones made just for the board game. The action takes place in Renaissance Italy between the Assassin's Creed Brotherhood and Assassin's Creed Revelations video games. Board games based on beloved video game franchises are nothing new and often struggle to capture audiences' hearts. The designers at Triton Noir, an independent board game studio, hope to appeal to “both [...]

Sony officially announced its PlayStation 4 Black Friday week deals today. In a post on the PlayStation Blog, Sony confirmed its biggest Black Friday sales, with offers running from Nov. 18-26 in the U.S. and Nov. 22-30 in Canada. A new Marvel's Spider-Man PlayStation 4 bundle will be sold for $199.99 USD ($259.99 CAN). Warner Bros. Pictures released the first trailer for Pokémon: Detective Pikachu, the live-action film adaptation of the 3DS game Detective Pikachu. The story is set in Ryme City, a crowded metropolis where Pokémon and humans live together, and centers around Tim Goodman whose legendary detective father has mysteriously disappeared. The trailer shows off the pivotal scene where Tim first meets and understands a Pikachu that has broken into his house in the middle of the night. Ryan Reynolds' voice coming out of the well-known Pokémon sets the humorous tone for the rest of the video. Detective Pikachu for the 3DS received [...]

I mean you could like Just Cause for the story. You might be interested in the dark history of the South American island nation of Solís, and its connection to Rico Rodriguez. And perhaps the hero's ongoing intercontinental tussle with the Black Hand gets you going. But my guess is that the majority of people are into Just Cause for what happens in between the story – the ridiculous explosions, the grappling hook tethers, the complex interplay of car, building and NPCs' faces. And somewhere, underneath it all, there's a physics engine struggling to make sense of all of this and, just [...]

Steven Spielberg, the iconic director behind films such as E.T., Jurassic Park, and Saving Private Ryan, reportedly played quite a bit of Pong in his day. In this month's IGN Unfiltered, Underworld Ascendant creative director Joe Fielder mused about his brief time working alongside the enigmatic filmmaker on 2008's Boom Blox. “Spielberg, he came up with the initial idea for throwing the ball and would check in regularly,” Fielder said. “It was great to be able to tell my dad 'Steven Spielberg stopped by my desk the other day.' He's a gamer. He told a story about how he first got introduced [...]
